Since 2022 I have had the immense pleasure of working with Dr. Julie Chamberlain and the many amazing folks at the South Valour Resident's Association to explore ways of thinking about and doing anti-oppressive and grassroots approaches to safety in the neighbourhood.
The work built on a literature review we initially conducted in 2022 that explored ways of talking about and practicing community safety. The project culminated in a Community Safety Toolbox published in 2025 which includes templates, tools, background information, and is the most comprehensive resource for finding the various outputs from this project.
In brief some additional highlights:
- A journal article on our experience putting the literature review into practice.
- Community Asset Mapping with neighbourhood residents which resulted in a short 2-page summary of the findings and a series of infographics published by the SVRA on their social media.
- The numerous presentations and discussions that I have had the joy of having with residents and organizations across Winnipeg.
